A Travellerspoint blog

One week out

A week from today, Jean and I fly to Phoenix. We are traveling with Jean’s sister Lisa, who will accompany us for part of the trip, and we are visiting our son Alex and his wife Guifang, who live in Glendale. They will travel with us part of the way also. In the previous blog entry, from May, I thought the planning was mostly done. Oh no. Lots of details added and fun things included. I think the itinerary is now mostly complete. Since the previous entry, we added tickets to Penn and Teller in Vegas, reservations for Disneyland, firmed up plans to visit my brother Rick in Redondo Beach on July 4th, added dinner reservations all across the trip, and identified the best donut shops in each locale, just in case. Packing plans are nearly complete and I think we have the right clothes for the hot weather. Really, really hot weather. 115 F today in Phoenix and Las Vegas, cooling to 108 F by the time we arrive (we hope).

Looking forward to Day One, Thursday June 24th.

Arizona 2021 - Preparations!

The Uninhabitable Tour

Welcome Readers!

In about 5 weeks, we begin a mega roadtrip, starting in Phoenix and ending in Los Angeles. This site, Travellerspoint.com, and this blog will be the place we post our travel stuff for those interested in following along. Travellers is spelt with two L's in the domain name, as the site originates Australia and that's how they do it down under, so go figure.

We fly out of Boston, and into the heat, on Thursday June 24th, and begin in Phoenix. We jokingly call it Arizona 2021 The Uninhabitable Tour because it will be hot! hot! hot!

Nearly all plans have been finalized - reservations, restaurant ideas, places to see, and things to do along the way.

We are visiting our son and his wife in Phoenix first and then spending time with them in Sedona before we head to the South Rim of Grand Canyon, and then on to points west.

Also, my wife's sister, Lisa, is coming along for part of the trip - the first week through Grand Canyon..

Most of the trip from Phoenix is by car, although we are doing a short hop from Vegas to LAX - no sense crossing Death Valley in July by automobile.

A big highlight is traveling Historic Route 66 from Williams AZ to Kingman AZ - possibly up into Oatman - we'll see how the day goes. The end of that day will see us in Chloride, AZ, staying at Shep's Miner's Inn. Can't wait.
